The opportunity to host different sports events such as the International Student Sports Games in 2000, the number of participants in which was about 800 students, is provided by excellent sports facilities of the University. They include a sports center with two swimming pools; halls for basketball, volleyball, tennis, acrobatics; a stadium, a gym, a football ground.
There are a lot of sports stars among the students. The most outstanding ones are those who bring the fame not only to the University but to the country as well. Among them are:
Andrey Tiumentsev an Olympic handball champion;
Rustem Alikov a three time world self-defense champion;
Youry Trubitsin the European and world sports acrobatics champion among young people and the absolute champion of Europe;
Vasiliy Kozlov the kickboxing champion of Russia, the world champion in the World-Profi version;
Tatiana Surkova the Europe handball champion among juniors;
Maria Goncharuk and Eugeny Stepanov are European and world sports dances champions among juniors;
Michail Petrov is European Graeco-Roman wrestling champion;
Sergei Yakovlev - a member of Graeco-Roman wrestling sports team;
Oksana Gerzanich the European judo champion in;
Ilia Levkin the acrobatics champion of Russia;
Michail Polin a three time European rowing champion;
Victoria Trushenko a member of the track-and-field athletics joint team of Russia;
Emilia Turey the Europe and world handball champion;
Aleksey Okunev a champion of the World Student Games and others.
